Long Earth came together by a series of fortunate but unexpected coincidences. A bunch of musicians who just wanted to create and have fun. We originally just got together to jam and see what came about, things went well and so we realised that we had become "a band" and needed a name. Mike was a real fan of Terry Pratchett and suggested the name Long Earth and it stuck.

Mike Baxter (Keyboards) was a feature of the Glasgow music scene during the 1970s and 1980s, playing notably with Shoot The Moon, Glas Clas and Identity Crisis amongst many others. It was during Mike's time with Identity Crisis that Mike played with Gordon. Rehearsing and recording in his houses in Edinburgh and then in Gordon's basement in Kinghorn.

Gordon Mackie (Bass) has a background in music spanning more than 40 years. During the '80's he provided the bottom end and drive for Cry Wolf and seminal Glasgow prog rock band Abel Ganz. Gordon recorded Gullible's Travels with Ganz and played a lot of great live gigs including the Venue and the Mayfair and Kelvingrove Festival. Moving into the '90's, following a move east to Edinburgh, a chance meeting in a supermarket in Comely Bank saw Gordon hooking up with Mike in Identity Crisis.

Ken Weir (Drums & Percussion) was one of the founding members of Abel Ganz. During his time with the Ganzers, Ken was the drummer from the early days of Milngavie Town Hall through to and beyond the Gullible's Travels days - featuring a line up that changed to Paul Kelly, Hew Montgomery, Gordon Mackie and himself. To further build on this, Ken's sister Connie has made a massive contribution from the start and produced all our artwork.

Renaldo McKim (Lead Guitar) joined Long Earth at the latter stages of the recording of the base tracks of our debut album "The Source" - just in time to weave his special brand of magic through the material and in plenty of time to start planning our next stage in the journey. Renaldo has an great reputation both as a recording and performance artist, latterly with Suicide Underground during which time he played with Bruce Levick of Comedy Of Errors and Grand Tour.

Martin Haggarty (Lead Vocals) joined Long Earth in June 2018. Martin formed Glasgow "post punk" outfit Lost Weekends in 1983 during a Lou Reed/Iggy Pop phase before joining Abel Ganz for a brief spell and 5 or 6 gigs (1985?). He joined short-lived proggers Masque in 86 before forming Field of Vision 1987. After 4 years, FoV took a hiatus that lasted until 2013, when the 3 core members reformed to write new music, some of which featured on 2015's Viccissitudes of Life EP, and 2016 single The Dagger. FoV continue to write and record as a studio-only project, but with a desire to return to live music and a surplus of musical ideas, the opportunity to join a couple of former bandmates in Long Earth was too good to resist.

The Tale Of Long Earth

The final cog in the wheel is Hew Montgomery, Abel Ganz / Comedy Of Errors / Grand Tour who acts as a motivating factor in Long Earth. A semi silent partner almost.

Long Earth are busy working on their second album "Once Around The Sun". 58 minutes worth of music written and recording started.

Scarlet INside consists of Kevin Kennie: Vocals, Guitars, guitar and other synths, percussion, assorted instruments and noises Brian Johnstone: Keyboards, synths, computers, and all other tech stuff and noises David Lewis: Drums, Percussion, Noises

Other musicians old and new, when available

How about a little something different then, well that's what you get with this lot. No particular genre as they play a broad spectrum. Describing themselves as experimental they kind of remind me of a modern day Pink Floyd with a mix of instruments, objects and sounds that take you to that lil trip out place in ya brain. Vocally great, Lyrically Superb and the music is just awesome in its own unique way. Rockbandom.com

The band is based in Glasgow and West Scotland. Scarlet INside record and play a broad mixture of sounds and styles playing an experimental style and a stage show mentality...often using bizarre instruments (such as kitchen pots and pans, Ugandan Harp, didgeridoo...etc...) as well as guitars, guitar synths, computers and drums and other instruments as necessary and when desired Scarlet INside is a tripartite entity; musically split into three genres. One is an experimental rock, jazz, prog, blues world music performing band One is Kevin Kennie as a solo act playing acoustic + singer songwriter material One is an experimental electro/ambient/soundscape composition and recording act

in 2016 we recorded a new album THirty RiVers to CRoss https://scarletinside.bandcamp.com/album/thirty-rivers-to-cross

." Scarlet INside has a definite affection for the dark side of the prog garden; the images are vivid and quite full-bodied...you can almost feel that unwanted hand on your knee. The bass line is haunting while drums and guitars tap at the back of your skull a bit delicately, as though attempting to break through without being obtrusive. The vocals cut like a dull knife through a frozen stick of butter; not exactly a gentle exercise but fitting the mood. Kevin channels Jamie Muir for a while as he draws sound from virtually everything and everywhere--and it works perfectly. Don't be scared; the evil genius really is harmless... In 2011 we recorded our first ‘rock’ EP, called ‘The Fall’, containing five tracks all music and lyrics by Kevin Kennie but with full band involvement in the production, input and output of the tracks. The tracks on this CD are a mixture of blues, rock, prog, jazz, folk, dance, African rhythms, Indian melodies, computer beats and synth sounds, screaming guitar solo’s, industrial crunches, minimalist lines and unusual lyrics...just the way we like it. https://scarletinside.bandcamp.com/album/the-fall in 2013 we released our new album ‘The Blood that we Share’, Volumes 1 and 2. containing a wide mixture of genres, styles and experimentation. Volume 1 is a series of rock, prog and experimental tracks Volume 2 is a more chilled out rock, acoustic and ambient tracks http://scarletinside.bandcamp.com/album/the-blood-that-we-share-volume-1-scarlet https://scarletinside.bandcamp.com/album/the-blood-that-we-share-volume-2-inside

Reviews ‘FORKSTER SAYS:’ The mastermind and sole member of Scarlet Inside, Kevin Kennie, displays his monstrous music talents throughout these thunderous music landscapes. The music took my ears to lands of new sounds and then to progressive rock waves. This was really deep, moving music, built strongly with voice caverns in perfect placed  settings. FORKSTER respects the music efforts and talents of Scarlet Inside. Forkster-rOCKS-It-oUT https://www.facebook.com/pages/Forkster-rOCKS-It-oUT/104663383005148

‘One of the best examples of progressive music to come out of Glasgow in a long time. You can never predict what type of show you will get from this experimental trio. What’s guaranteed is that you’ll be completely blown away by their superlative musicianship. Check out their latest EP, ‘The FAll’, on i-tunes’ Paul Wishart: Paul Wishart events ‘known collectively as Scarlet INside and their EP is called ‘The FAll’, certainly influences abound in this EP. Not those of other bands however but sounds and sonic textures from other parts of the world. Take the eastern textures in ‘The FAll’ for example, that bring the kind of variety rarely heard in the output of a Glasgow band. You don’t doubt the maturity of the participants either with ‘Dungeons and Fishtails showing a near theatrical demeanour reminiscent of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. None of the songs here are three minute, radio friendly snapshots of ice-cream and summer days, but that is hardly a criticism. ‘The FAll’ is the work of an intelligent and committed band. Review by: Bluesbunny The bluesbunny, http://www.bluesbunny.com/ ‘A much stronger performer was Kevin Kennie. A little box of electronic tricks kept his acoustic guitar company for most of his set and that allowed him to stretch out his songs to near prog-rock dimensions. That’s not actually the the insult it sounds like, as there was no doubt the Mr Kennie could both sing and play and I can see him having a lot of appeal to chilled out rock fans The bluesbunny, http://www.bluesbunny.com/
