The Calum Gourlay Quartet
Glasgow born Bassist, Composer and Band Leader Calum Gourlay brings his brand new quartet and first small band album to tour the UK in 2019.
Featuring music written especially for and inspired by the band members who are also 3 founding members of his big band. Helena Kay on Saxophone, Kieran McLeod on Trombone and Alyn Cosker on drums.
This is the bands only Glasgow gig of 2019.
Calum has held two residencies at the Vortex Jazz Club – Thelonious (from 2015-17) playing the music of Thelonious Monk with Martin Speake & Hans Koller & a continuing monthly Big Band residency from 2017 providing London with a regular night of new compositions & arrangements.
As part of the Kit Downes Trio he played on Mercury Award nominated 'Golden' (2009).
His debut album Calum Gourlay - Live at The Ridgeway (2015) received critical acclaim, not least because of a confident format – a solo live recording in front of an intimate audience.
In 2015 he was a finalist for the International Society of Bassists Scott LaFaro Prize.
He has been a member of the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra directed by Tommy Smith since 2006.
